Come on down ‘n’ git yer fix of vidya game music!
9. Paper Mario: Sticker Star
While Paper Mario: Sticker Star was probably the most disappointing game of 2012 for me it doesn’t change the fact that the game had some elements of Paper Mario that I still love. One of those things is the music, while there are hundreds of games with epic orchestras, and beautiful songs of sadness sometimes you just need something that you can skip and whistle to, and this tune does just that.
8. Kingdom Hearts – Twister -Kingdom Mix-
Kingdom Hearts has always been a series strong with it’s music, especially staying true to all of the Disney series sounds that you grew up loving. Needless to say that Dream Drop Distance’s soundtrack sounded amazing, one of my favorite levels of that game was a great reinterpretation of Fantasia. But the song that has really grown on me after finishing the game towards the beginning of the year was this awesome remix.
7. Starhawk – Hawk Battle
A lot of people overlooked Lightbox’s epic space shooter that was released last year. Not only was the game actually pretty enjoyable but I found some of the music to be really good. The harmonica adding a really unique feel to it that makes you wanna just build a giant tower just to snipe some cowboy alien scum.
6. Soul Calibur 5 – Where Springs Not Fail – Leixia’s Theme
“All right I’m ready! Let’s get this fight started!” is the immediate thought that rushes to my head when this song begins. the beginning is just incredibly powerful and holds throughout the entire song. It is literally one of the most suited songs for a fighting game as it keeps the energy in the air for an entire fight and is still an energetic song outside of the game. This probably is one of my favorite songs this year.
Honorable Mention of the Day
The Last Story
Sorry JRPG fans but this song didn’t make the best of the best last year. While I do really like the female vocals of the song, there were a ton of other songs this year that also had slow meaningful songs with female vocalists and couldn’t make the cut, I just felt that this one of all deserved a mention.
