Well despite looking like an old school action RPG it really isn’t. There is nothing in the way of the normal loot of RPGs and your character has all the power you need to complete the game when you finish the tutorial, the only thing you pick up along the way are additional Magicks (more on these later) and replacements for your weapon and staff which add small bonuses but nothing really game changing compared to your awesome power.

With Total War: Shogun 2’s release approaching I have gone back to playing Empire after a long stint away from the series. There were a number of issues with the game’s AI at launch and so Creative Assembly got to work on patching the game although not all issues have been addressed although they have stated that Shogun 2’s AI has been improved ten fold. I haven’t played Empire since before the major patches were implemented so any changes are all news to me but having started a new campaign it already appears that the AI has been much improved.
The thing I never encountered before took place about 5 turns into the game. Previously the Iroquis Confederacy captured the region of New York from my protectorates, the Thirteen Colonies, and so with a desire to expand my territory in the Americas I gathered up any spare troops from the Caribbean Islands. Putting together as many troops as I could in Britain I set them on a ship and set sail for the Americas. The idea being that once I had taken Albany I could reinforce the existing troops and continue my military campaign further inland.
On the 20th January 2011 Paradox Interactive held their press conference in New York and announced that since they started back in 2003 they have had a 1000% increase in their revenue. Whilst this doesn’t mean much in terms of turnover without actual numbers it does show how rapidly their company is growing and expanding. Incredible stuff as they mainly focus on the genres not normally touched by mainstream developers including simulation games and strategies with in depth historical accuracy.
Creative Assembly have today released a Campaign Trailer for their upcoming strategy, Shogun 2: Total War. It shows us some of the features of the campaign map including telling us about some of the agents we will be able to control. They also explain the new experience points system for commanders and agents which allows us to grant them skills.
There are more features explained in the video below and I think you will agree that the campaign map is simply looking gorgeous!
As well as releasing the Campaign Trailer they have also released details on the Date and Uesugi Clans which you can view below.
Two big pieces of news today of which one will surely be a sigh of relief for PC gamers and among all of that we have some smaller bits of news to digest too!
Microsoft’s Windows 8 to be at the forefront of a new approach to PC gaming?
It all started with Microsoft’s recent overhaul of the Games for Windows Marketplace and then the announcement of a new Age of Empires, a new Flight Simulator and Fable 3 coming to the PC. It all points to Microsoft taking on a new approach to PC gaming which has just been bolstered once again by the hiring of Voodoo PC founder Rahul Sood as General Manager for System Experience. Rahul has previously been very outspoken about Microsoft’s attitude towards PC gaming when Microsoft cancelled their cross platform plans to connect the Xbox 360 and PC in multiplayer.
Monday Night Combat is a third-person shooter developed by Uber Entertainment and published by Microsoft Games Studios.
The game was first released on Xbox Live Summer of Arcade in August 2010 and is now being released via Steam on PC on 17th January 2011.
It is currently in Beta, which you can get access to by pre-purchasing the game (for a reduced price of £8.99, down from £9.99). And the beta is pretty much finished.
One thing I must point out, is how much the game is being compared to Team Fortress 2 (TF2), which it should be really. Both games are (1) shooters, (2) funny cartoon-ee graphics, and (3) awesome! But surprisingly, MNC has the edge with the class abilities, though they are a bit repetitive between classes, but make a big difference to the game-play. And of course, the storyline – if I can call it that – of MNC is excellent and gives the game purpose. Continue Reading
Don’t you just love it when communities come together in games to create truly wonderful pieces of work? Well Dark Endeavor of Durotan Realm did exactly that and created a lip dub to Billy Joel’s ‘We didn’t start the fire’. Ok it isn’t the best of quality but when communities come together to create pieces of art and to have fun it really does put a smile on your face.
