EA’s new shooter, sequel to the 2007 Crysis and Crysis Warhead, was released last week and this is the first in the series to offer a competitive online mode, and it’s great fun.
I haven’t yet experienced the single player of Crysis 2, simply because I’ve been so excited about the multiplayer (hence that comes first!), especially after playing the PC demo which gave you access to two maps and two game modes from the full game (the same as the previously released Xbox 360 demo, except with one different map). In the demo, you could also access the basic classes; Assault; Scout; Sniper and; Gunner which were basic, but like in popular shooters they give you access to items/guns you may not have unlocked yet.
The idea for the Multiplayer is actually quite awesome, using the formula that has [arguably] made Call of Duty (CoD) games so popular, where you gain exp for doing challenges, completing objectives and killing people. Then you create your class with all the fun stuff you have unlocked – from guns, grenades, attachments etc. With Crysis 2, it’s very much the same, the one difference being the Nanosuit! People who have played previous games in the series will be familiar with the Nanosuit, but in Crysis 2 they have made a few changes and changed it to the Nanosuit 2.0. The main difference is the missing modes, the speed mode which kicks in automatically when you “sprint”, and the strength mode is either missing or automatic (though it’s less noticeable).
This is what makes the multiplayer so much fun – everyone has the Nanosuit 2.0, and everyone has it on a different setting (with different abilities and weapons depending on their class choices). What makes the Nanosuit so fun, is how you can change it easily mid-combat and adapt to any situation, e.g. if you are pinned down by the enemy, one person can cloak and sneak around for the flank to get the upper hand, or if you need to escape by jumping off the tall building – just switch Armour mode on so you take less damage from the fall.
The Nanosuit is what sets Crysis 2 apart from other games (and competitive multiplayers), but something should also be said for the general combat. The weapons are surprisingly good, though I’m surprised that I was surprised, because they work just as well as they did in previous games, but it’s much more significant when you’re against other players and not bots. My main gripe with the gameplay are the grenades, which can just be a little finicky when you are more accustomed to holding one button to get them out and use them, rather than having them set to a separate weapon slot which I just don’t like, but you only need to get used to it. In conclusion, if you’re a fan of the series get Crysis 2. It’s more of the same great gameplay, and I have no doubt that the Single Player will be just as good as the previous games, hopefully with some new additions to keep it fresh. But before even touching the single player, I think it is worth the money just because the multiplayer is such fun.

Do you know how many maps there are in the online multiplayer for crysis 2?
I believe there’s eight; City Hall, Downed Bird, Impact, Liberty Island, Lighthouse, Parking Deck, Pier 17 and Skyline.
Maybe not the most various, but I found that most, if not all, are fairly decently sized because of all the various routes, there aren’t any that are just one place where people go to see combat.
