It would appear that Croteam, developers of Serious Sam 3: BFE, have decided that rather than use the traditional methods of DRM for their game on PC they would place a large scorpion/man beast instead. What happens next is an invincible beast constantly coming after you which no doubt turns the difficulty level of the game up a notch or three. This Youtube video shows all:
Can you imagine if something similar happened in Skyrim or Batman Arkham City? Imagine invincible dragons or penguins! Developers need to start coming up with methods similar to these in the future instead of those more traditional ones such as that used by Ubisoft which require an always-on internet connection. It not only provides some amusing video content but it doesn’t penalise legitimate players and just look at the amount of free media exposure Serious Sam 3 and Croteam will be getting now. All by just coding in a few extras for those who felt the need not to part with their cash.
I do recall an indie developer not that long ago replacing the characters in their game with pirates if it wasn’t a legitimate copy. Certainly makes for an amusing experience and still gives you a taste of the game before you (probably) inevitably purchase it.
As I was about to finish off this article it would appear that another form of DRM has been implemented in the game. This time the player’s camera is directed towards the sky with no way of moving it round whilst you get slaughtered by enemy creatures, ingenious! Youtube video below:
