As with every new year, we have many new and exciting games to look forward to, advancements in technology to marvel at, and new game systems to spend our hard earned money on. That being said, lets take a moment to look at some of the greats of 2011 ( in no particular order).
Star Wars the Old Republic is definitely one of the most highly anticipated game releases for the 2011 year. With its unique style of gameplay, SWtOR took the MMORPG world by storm, giving Star Wars fans, old and new, a new view on the lore that they so love, expanding the Star Wars universe to new heights.
Battlefield 3 is yet another game that has brought a new look and feel to its genre. While not as highly anticipated as Modern Warfare 3, Battlefield 3’s graphics and game play are second to none. If you haven’t yet bought Battlefield 3, take a moment to drop that Modern Warfare campaign and pick yourself up a copy, you won’t regret it. (GTN’s Battlefield 3 Review)
Easily the most sought aftergame in the FPS genre, Call of Duty: Modern Warefare 3 was also released in 2011. Infinity Ward’s continuation of the Modern Warfare storyline, as usual, has done them a lot of good, and while the graphics may not be as sharp and realistic as those of Battlefield 3, why fix what isn’t broken?
And who could forget Skyrim? Bethesda released the 5th Elder Scrolls game this year. Many Elder Scrolls fans have waited a long time for this game, and Bethesda did not disappoint. Skyrim takes the Elder Scrolls graphics and game play to new levels. However, try not to take an arrow to the knee. (GTN’s Skyrim Review)
Portal 2 is yet another great game that was brought to us this past year. For anyone who played the original, Portal 2 expanded on the storyline masterfully. Not to mention, valve added an awesome multiplayer aspect to the game.
While Ubisoft didn’t change much to the game, Assassin’s Creed Revelations does a wonderful job expanding the storyline and bringing all of the main characters together under one title. If you haven’t played this one yet, you definitely need to give it a go.
Probably one of my favorite games this year, Minecraft takes us back to 8-bit, in a simplistic game where you mine… and you craft… careful, it gets addicting. (GTN’s Minecraft Review)
Much like Minecraft, Terraria is another game where you mine, you craft, and you build, however, while Minecraft is in a 8-bit three dimensional world, terraria is a classic side scrolling 8-bit game, much like the old Nintendo games.
2011 was the year of threes. Once again, another storyline was progressed in Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception, and while I myself have not played it, I’m sure Kieffer would love you to read his article on this great game of 2011. (GTN’s Uncharted 3 Review)
When looking for unique, Catherine definitely takes the cake (which is totally a lie…). This 2011 release, while odd, will keep you entertained for hours with its highly unique puzzles and very interesting storyline.
Finally, my personal favorite, Deus Ex: Human Revolution. This FPS-RPG cross genre game is action packed and definitely worth taking the time to pick up and play… the hard way. Sneak around and kill your enemies silently, without getting caught. (GTN’s Deus Ex Review)
This list is by no means complete, but, I hope you have all gotten a chance to pick up at least one of these titles this year to help hold you over for 2012’s upcoming releases.
Just played a couple of the indies on steam since they had their sales and I am realizing we missed a few really great games!
Indeed, some of the indie games on steam are amazing!
