Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) have released the PlanetSide 2 theatre presentation shown at E3 for everyone to see. The presentation showcases the main features of the game, starting off with the game’s factions (Terran Republic, the New Conglomerate and the Vanu Sovereignty) by giving us a little background on their design, weapons etc as well as giving us a taster for some of the game’s classes and vehicles. There will be an insane amount of customisation available, allowing you to adapt your weapons and vehicles to your play style.
Team play is obviously a huge thing in PlanetSide 2 with the different factions battling out amongst themselves with hundreds of players in battle at any given point. Team tools include ten-man squads in which the leader can assign different assignments to his squad members to keep them on target and you can even co-ordinate your squad’s uniforms so you all look the same. Three of these squads can band together to form a platoon which can all attack one single target. Outfits provide a more permanent grouping of players much like guilds in other MMOs.
Beyond the game is the player website which has deep stat tracking, much like the stat tracking in Battlefield 3, and means you’ll have a record of everything you’ve ever used in the game at your fingertips. Since PlanetSide 2 is in a persistent world you’ll be able to go to the Planet Status tab and take a look a look at what’s happening on your home server out of the game.
SOE plan to release an app for iOS and Android devices following the release of the game which will allow you to do everything the player website does. The apps will include one nifty and unique feature that will allow you to connect to the VoIP built into the game enabling you to talk to your friends live through your phone.
