This is the second interactive trailer/demo we’ve seen for a game this week following the release of Dishonored’s ‘Daring Escapes’ gameplay trailer on Thursday. These interactive trailers are awfully good at giving two or more perspectives on how to do missions in the games they’re showcasing. This time it’s the turn of EA who have released an extended video of the Crysis 3 demo shown at this year’s E3. You have the choice to take on the mission in either Stealth or Armour mode.
Taking the Stealth option sees you using your suit’s cloak ability to sneak past and take out the Cell Corporation soldiers on your way to destroying a generator at a dam held by the Cell Corporation. Rather interestingly there’s a new hacking feature which allows you to reprogram turrets to see the Cell soldiers as the enemy instead of you. Taking the armour option sees you taking on the Cell soldiers head on using all your available arsenal to cause as much destruction as possible, including the use of an alien weapon scavenged from a downed helicopter. Both options take you along slightly different paths, seeing you taking ducts in the stealth gameplay.
My only concern from the demo is that the stealth section always seems to result in violence. I expected you to be taking out more of the Cell soldiers with close, silent kills rather than just equipping a silencer and shooting everything. There seemed to be very few moments in that demo where you weren’t shooting something in the open. It would be good, and reassuring, to have the option to completely bypass Cell soldiers and violence in favour of a more traditional stealth approach, but after Crysis 2 I doubt that’ll happen. Still, at least Crysis 3 is showing more in the way of a more open world, although it’ll remain to be seen as EA release more information on the game how much more open the world ultimately is.
Check out the demo below and let us know whether you chose the stealth or armour playthrough.
