The popular zombie mod, DayZ, is being made into a standalone game. “This is actually happening,” says DayZ creator, Dean “rocket” Hall.
The game will be developed, with rocket as the project lead, by Bohemia Interactive, the developers for ARMA 2 and, the upcoming sequel, ARMA 3.
While the new game is being developed the mod will continue to be updated alongside it, so everyone can continue playing as normal.
“This is a fairy-tale outcome for a mod that many would have said impossible four months ago,” said Rocket.
While it may be a fairy-tale come true for Rocket, this is news that many have been heavily anticipating for a while. After just four short months, DayZ has attracted over a million unique players.
It is still early days, but there is a new website for the game at DayZGame.com which will, hopefully, be updated in the coming weeks as “questions will be answered” and more is decided.
The blog post says that the game will use a model similar to Minecraft, with constant updates and a community alpha available for a “heavily discounted” price.
