The The ability to destroy a planet may be insignificant next to the power of the Force, but in a real time strategy I’m thinking it is pretty important… Well Planetary Annihilation will enable you to do just that assuming it gets the funding. 20 left days to go and an amazing $733,000 of their lofty $900,000 goal already, watch the pitch after the jump and you will see why.
Earlier this week in response to the overwhelming support Uber Entertainment also announced stretch goals, promising to add naval battles and water planets and even gas giants and orbital structures should it receive enough funding.
The most important update so far has been today’s video update which answered a few frequently asked questions. When they announced that there would be no campaign some people took this to mean it would be multiplayer only but they have now confirmed that they simply meant there would be no story linked missions. Full AI to play against in skirmish mode is going to be available, so if anyone was worried about that now is the time to jump on board.
With the team consisting of people who have worked on (among others) Total Annihilation, Battle for Middle Earth, Supreme Commander and Demigod, I really can’t see this going wrong and it would be nice to see a modern take on the RTS games of yesteryear.
