The decline of arcades hit pinball badly. It was already on the way out as a pinball machine is more expensive to maintain than an entirely electronic games machine, parts break with use and need replacing. Then the electronic games in the arcades got hit, with modern games consoles bringing affordable video game entertainment into the living room the queues and noise of arcades became less and less popular. These days they seem to mostly contain gambling machines and more chavs than you would believe possible. At 27 I am too young (or perhaps I missed it for other reasons) to have ever appreciated pinball in pubs and arcades, I have however played many a Pinball Simulation over the years, ranging from Space Cadet on Windows XP to the brilliant Pro Pinball: Timeshock table. Well now Silverball Studios, the creators of the Timeshock table I enjoyed so much, want to not only remake and remaster the four tables from the Pro Pinball but also create a brand new table to go with it.
Not a week has gone by without someone asking us to either bring the original tables to modern platforms or to create a brand new table in the series. Now with your help we’d like to do both these things and more!
Firstly, we want to Revive the series with a brand new ultimate Pro Pinball table for PC, Mac, iOS, XBLA, PS3, PS Vita, Linux and Android (including OUYA and Kindle Fire). To do this we have teamed up with pinball legend Pat Lawlor, creator of the best selling pinball table of all time; The Addams Family, and the highest rated pinball table of all time; The Twilight Zone. Unhindered by the financial constraints of designing for the real world, Pat will be free to design the ultimate game he has always dreamed of making. Just like the original Pro Pinball classics, this new table will be designed in such a way that it COULD be made for REAL… one day.
With 9 days left to go on their Kickstarter they are still some way from their modest (compared to some Kickstarter games) $400,000 goal. As an incentive they are offering a free download of one of their original tables to anyone who visits their page and there is a lighting demo already available to download for those who want a better idea of what the remastered tables will be like.
So, what are you waiting for, go give their page a look!
