This afternoon Rockstar Games released the 2nd trailer for the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto V (GTA V). The trailer was originally due to have been released to the public a couple of weeks ago, but was delayed after Hurricane Sandy shut down their New York offices.
Trailer number 2 doesn’t as such tell us anything more about the new features in GTA V, it’s mostly just introducing us to the 3 protagonists Michael, Trevor and Franklin, following their announcement in the recent Game Informer magazine (more info on them after the trailer). Michael, a former bank robber, relaxes on a deck chair by the pool in the back yard of his mansion advising the viewer to “give the shit up” before panning away from him and his drink.
We quickly move onto Trevor, the game’s career criminal, former military pilot and drug user, where we’re shown off the Blaine County where he lives and rules the trade of guns and drugs in the area. We’re quickly shown why as he throws a molotov cocktail into a wooden house which quickly produces a dramatic explosion. No doubt showing us there will be a lot of violence when playing as him.
Franklin is the final playable character we’re shown in the trailer and as a repo man working for an Armenian luxury car dealership he essentially goes round taking back the cars from the clients who can’t afford to pay for them. Expect lots of high-speed chases and getaways here.
Moving away from the characters themselves it’s onto the rest of the trailer which concentrates on showing off various elements of the game; explosions, piloting light aircraft, driving fast cars, shooting, rappelling down skyscrapers, undertaking bank jobs, riding motorcycles, driving out of the back of a transport plane and more. It’s all pretty varying and dramatic by the time we come to the end of the trailer which shows us the 3 characters all coming together for the first time in front of a helicopter.
It’s a shame the trailer doesn’t show off more of the new features detailed below but we can be sure to hear much more from Rockstar over the coming months leading up to release in Spring 2013.
