CD Projekt RED has released four new screen shots showing just how much work is being put into their new game, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and gives plenty of reason to be excited.
If you haven’t played an entry in the series it’s a great one to try and play because it does a lot of things that other RPG’s don’t do. The combat is a lot more complex compared to many other RPG’s. Instead of running into battle you have to figure out what it takes to take down every type of enemy using the variety different types of combat styles that the game gives you to choose from and making sure that you can keep down the rhythm of the combat. The storyline has a bag of choices that will effect how your game will play out later down the line but instead of choices that are somewhat obvious to where you are going the game does a great job of blurring what you are actually choosing for the future.
A lot of people say that the Witcher series does a great job because it’s a game that isn’t held back by it’s console alternatives but in this next game you will be able to play through the game on your PC or on the next Playstation or Xbox. In an interview with EDGE CD Projekt RED’s joint CEO Marcin Iwinski said the following “We’ve clearly said we’ll be next-gen only, PC is a non-stop next-gen, that’s the cool thing about it. So I think a lot of people with big franchises and massive reach plans, they’ll have this dilemma, and I think there’ll be a lot of comprises made in the industry that might not necessarily be good for gamers.”
A lot of information was given through an interview with softpedia and Marek Ziemak. “It’s a separate tale from the others, but some old friends will reappear. We hope that this won’t feel like an intrusion for new players and most of them will even not notice the subtle nudges towards the collective history.” From what it sounds like the game will be a great starting point for anyone who wants to play it, whether you have been involved in the series or not. It will be bring in an entirely open world that is 35 times bigger than The Witcher 2 and another reason to jump into this entry is that this is the ending of The Witcher trilogy, and speaking of endings..”We can just tell you that there are 36 different possible world states at the conclusion The Witcher 3. These endings are preceded by 3 different epilogue sequences.”
Combat will also be improved to bring a more intense and intimate experience. “What we’ve wanted to achieve in this installment is more dueling and an intimate approach to combat. We want to give the player full control over Geralt and his swords. This meant remastering the combat from the second game. Now one button press is one blow, and all strikes within the same combat style take a similar amount of time to execute. Also defense has changed. We’ve added new moves like the pirouette, and these can interrupt any attack if the situation changes.
Also you will be able to use the environment to your advantage. The AI will be more intelligent and dangerous. We’ve changed the magic signs systems so now one sign has two versions. You will still have to drink potions before combat, but you will be able to activate their effects any time you want, as witchers can control their metabolism.”
One can only see the things being said of The Witcher 3 and the pictures that are released and wonder if this could become one of the biggest RPG’s of the next generation. The original two games were excellent RPG’s but only the second was released on XBOX early last year after the game had released. This entry in the series could see a big spike in popularity because of it’s immersive open world and it’s unique combat plus the fact that it is going to be available to anyone who plays games because of it’s release onto consoles.
