At CES Kaz Hirai of Sony stated that there would be no Playstation 4 at this year’s E3 stating “I’ve always said a 10-year life cycle of the Ps3 and there is no reason to go away from that”. Is Sony living in the PS2 days where they couldn’t be stopped no matter what or do they have something else up their sleeve? Well according to Gaikai, a cloud based gaming service, they claim that “there won’t be another generation of systems and that will be the biggest news of E3”. This shouldn’t be taken too seriously as this seems more like a fantasy than a realistic prediction.

This week on PSN there isn’t too much game wise to be excited about besides owning the first two entries in the Final Fantasy Franchise on your PS3 and if you want you can grab Choplifter HD. Demo wise though you should be very excited as you should be able to preview Asura’s Wrath and Final Fantasy XIII-2 weeks before they are released, thoughts on these demos will be posted by tomorrow. Sadly for those of you who were expecting Amy to be released today the date has been pushed back due to a misstep Lexis Numérique took by making the game three dollars more on PSN than XBLA but not to worry, next week you shall recieve Amy for only 9.99. This week portable gaming has had more than the usual amount of news so we thought we would give you an update..
-Nekkei Trendy, a technology website for Japan, that the “Lite” model of the 3DS will be released in Japan during the first half of 2012 as many of you probably already predicted when they announced the 3DS in the first place. Hopefully this new model will have the Circle Pad Pro built into it.
– Also due to the low sales of the PS Vita shops in Japan (A little above 40,000 units, behind the 3DS, the PS3, the original PSP and even the Wii!) have been lowering their prices unofficially just to sell them from their stores, this has been happening more often with the 3G models than the regular models.
-A new Monster Hunter game has been rumored over in japan, this could be a spin off in the series or a port of the fourth title in the series which as it stands now is a 3DS exclusive.
-Capcom has confirmed that 3DS owners will be able to download the demo for Resident Evil Revelations later on this year.
-The 3DS has sold over 4 million units at this point in time, Nintendo states that this is more than the Wii sold in it’s first nine months. The regular Nintendo DS has sold over 10 Million.

When you think about the perfect game what comes to mind? Action, explosions, gunfights, running and jumping off of cities that are being destroyed?! Well Uncharted 3 has all of these things and a heck of a lot more to give to you and it satisfies. Back in 2007 when Naughty Dog released the original Uncharted people were stunned, the game was advanced in every way with fluid combat and an engine that pushed the boundaries it was hard not to be. This was improved with Uncharted 2 and not by any little amount either, the game was awarded game of the year by multiple critics. Now Naughty Dog continues to create cinematic greatness in the realm of video games with Uncharted 3:Drake’s Deception Continue Reading
Ratchet and Clank has been around since the PS2 and was known for it’s guns, comical tone and stylish setting. But the Ratchet and Clank games have also all been solo besides the versus modes that were in a few of the games. All 4 One is the game that changes the pace for the series by making coop a requirement. Me and my girlfriend are always on the lookout for a good coop game, while the competitive games are always fun to play, coop games give a whole different experience. Lucky for us and any of you who are also big coop players, this month seems to be a heavy coop month with the releases of games such as Dungeon Defenders and Payday: The Heist and many more. The Coop lineup kicks off with the release of Ratchet and Clank: All 4 One!
All 4 One tends to go along the same path as the other Ratchet and Clank games as the story starts off as the heroes battling the evil Dr. Nefarious but the game somehow manages to bring him onto the good side and all four of the characters (Ratchet, Clank, Qwark and Nefarious) work through the game to complete various tasks. The game heavily emphasizes the coop by making parts of the game that requires more than one player to complete. Enemies are also killed easier and faster if more than one player is attacking the same one. And while all this is happening you are still competing to see who can get the most bolts to upgrade their guns! While playing through the game I was very much reminded of the fun the first time I played Castle Crashers and Little Big Planet as I laughed and had fun taking other players and sabotaging them by scooping them up in my vacuum and shooting them off the side. And I think that is one of the greatest aspects of this Ratchet and Clank being a coop game. While most multiplayer games are frustrating and irritating, this has more of a light tone and allows the players to have fun. But this does not go without saying a lot of the good things about the other Ratchet and Clank games are missing. Continue Reading
Eidos Montreal recently released their newest game Deus Ex: Human Revolution, the prequel to Deus Ex, which was released in 2000. To sum the game up in a few brief words, its Thief meets Dragon Age with a futuristic twist. DX:HR brings to light a new style of Action Roleplaying Games.
Set in the year 2027, DX:HR puts you behind the controls of Adam Jensen, an ex SWAT commander and the head of security for Sarif Industries. The game’s tutorial mission brings you right into the thick of the plot as Jensen is told to brief his security plans for the upcoming trip to Washington D.C. to unveil Dr. Reed’s newest development in the human augmentation industry. Of course, as anyone could predict, things don’t quite as expected and you soon find yourself learning to quickly maneuver through the office space, while trying in vain to save scientists from gunman. A few dead henchmen later, you find yourself being thrown through a thick plate glass high-tech monitor as you cling to consciousness, you watch them take Dr. Reed just before you take a bullet to the brain. Que the opening credits (which is an awesome little cut scene).
While this doesn’t really explain anything about the game, the opening mission/scene gives you a storyline that is just informative enough to make you wonder what the hell is going on. When you wake up, you are now an augmented human, complete with a retinal display. Continue Reading
There have been rumours flying round all day about Valve announcing a new entry into the Counter-Strike series and it’s just been announced. Counter-Strike: Global Offensive has been announced for release in early 2012. Here’s the full press release from Valve below:
Next Gen Console, PC, and Mac Release Targeted for Early 2012.
Valve, creators of best-selling game franchises (such as Counter-Strike, Half-Life, Left 4 Dead, Portal, and Team Fortress) and leading technologies (such as Steam and Source), today announced Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS: GO).
Targeted for release via Playstation Network, Xbox Live Arcade, and Steam (for PC and Mac) in early 2012, CS: GO will expand upon the team-based action gameplay that it pioneered when it was launched exactly 12 years ago (CS beta 1, August 1999).
CS: GO features new maps, characters, and weapons and delivers updated versions of the classic CS content (de_dust, etc.). In addition, CS: GO will introduce new gameplay modes, matchmaking, leader boards, and more.
“Counter-Strike took the gaming industry by surprise when the unlikely MOD became the most played online PC action game in the world almost immediately after its release in August 1999,” said Doug Lombardi at Valve. “For the past 12 years, it has continued to be one of the most-played games in the world, headline competitive gaming tournaments and selling over 25 million units worldwide across the franchise. CS: GO promises to expand on CS’ award-winning gameplay and deliver it to gamers on the PC as well as the next gen consoles and the Mac.”
CS: GO is being developed by Valve in cooperation with Seattle-based Hidden Path Entertainment. The title is targeted for release in early 2012 and will be playable at this year’s PAX Prime and London Games Festival.

Two big pieces of news today of which one will surely be a sigh of relief for PC gamers and among all of that we have some smaller bits of news to digest too!
Microsoft’s Windows 8 to be at the forefront of a new approach to PC gaming?
It all started with Microsoft’s recent overhaul of the Games for Windows Marketplace and then the announcement of a new Age of Empires, a new Flight Simulator and Fable 3 coming to the PC. It all points to Microsoft taking on a new approach to PC gaming which has just been bolstered once again by the hiring of Voodoo PC founder Rahul Sood as General Manager for System Experience. Rahul has previously been very outspoken about Microsoft’s attitude towards PC gaming when Microsoft cancelled their cross platform plans to connect the Xbox 360 and PC in multiplayer.
Borderlands was developed by Gearbox Software and was first announced in 2007, to be released in 2009 for the PC, 360 and PS3. I was annoyed at release, because they delayed the PC version so they could improve the graphics further beyond the console-counterparts but it turned out to be an excellent game that has sucked up many of my hours.
