The Evolution Championship Series (Or Evo) is the big event in the Fighting game calendar. An annually held tournament that takes place in The United States with players travelling from all around the world to compete. This year they are having eight main tournament games, seven of which have been already been announced. Unlike in previous years however one of the games is going to be picked by way of a charity donation drive, the game that receives the most donations in it’s name will get that eighth slot and all the proceeds will go to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Evo 2013 is being held July 12-14 at the Paris Hotel & Casino, Las Vegas.
The announced games are all the usual suspects, Capcom games featuring prominently as always with three titles on the list so far.
Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3
Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition
Tekken Tag Tournament 2
Mortal Kombat 9
Street Fighter X Tekken 2013
King of Fighters XIII
Persona 4 Arena
Where it gets interesting is with the eighth game. As this short-list was chosen by means of a Facebook vote, and we know how these things go once someone has the idea to get something unexpected to win them, there are some which are certainly going to cause some upsets if they win the drive…
Guilty Gear XX Accent Core +R
Super Smash Bros. Melee
Super Smash Bros. Brawl
SFIII Third Strike, Online Edition
Virtua Fighter 5
Divekick
Melty Blood Actress Again Current
MLP: Fighting is Magic
Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale
Dead or Alive 5
Capcom vs. SNK 2
Injustice
Skullgirls
Street Fighter II Super Turbo
Blazblue
Soul Calibur V
Darkstalkers 3
Personally I would like to see either of the Super Smash Bros. games take it, purely because it would add more variety to the lineup than some of the others. Skullgirls also needs more love so that would probably be my second choice.
What would you choose? Decided? The drive goes on for another 18 days and links to all the donate pages can be found on Shoryuken.com.
