LG U+ announces free Wi-Fi for every Korean

LG U+ are a mobile and telecommunications subsidiary of one of Korea’s largest conglomerates and they’ve just announced free Wi-Fi for anyone living in South Korea.

If you do live there, you’ll just need to register for an ID with them and then you can connect to their “Free_U+zone” absolutely free. The catch? Well, it’s actually quite a small one considering the benefits of the service, you have to sit through a 15 second commercial every hour you use the service. It’s hardly a bad trade off when you get the other 3,600 seconds to browse the web for free.

The new iPad 3 was announced yesterday at the Apple keynote event with specs and release dates, along with software updates for iOS5 and apps.

Rather than give it a label, it is simply “the new iPad”. And the new iPad will have a mega quad-core processor, the A5X, as well as a fancy Retina Display, which will be brighter and much sharper than the predecessor.

This gives the new iPad a 2048×1536 resolution, and you can expect it to look absolutely stunning.

Telltale Games have released the 2nd episode in their talk show, Playing Dead, which focuses on behind the scenes information about their upcoming game The Walking Dead.

In this episode they talk to Gary Whitta, story consultant for their game and screenwriter for The Book of Eli, and Sean Vanaman, one of the game’s lead designers.  They take a look at the art of expanding Robert Kirkman’s The Walking Dead universe in video game form and how the player’s choices will affect the game’s story as it progresses.

Telltale Games have also released 3 new screenshots for you to feast your eyes over.  You can view those and the trailer after the break.

EA have released the announce trailer for Medal of Honor Warfighter, the next installment in the series which went modern in their last game, Medal of Honor.  You’ll once again be returning to the modern battlefield playing as Tier 1 soldiers and taking on the dangerous PETN.  Here’s the blurb straight from EA:

Medal of Honor is back and once again puts you in the boots of today’s most precise and disciplined warriors. This time however, you’re going global.  Powered by Frostbite 2, Medal of Honor Warfighter delivers an aggressive, gritty, and authentic experience that puts gamers in the boots of today’s most precise and disciplined warriors in an up close and personal look at today’s battlefield and the fight against the ongoing global terror threat. Inspired by actual events, and written by Tier 1 Operators while deployed overseas. When an extremely deadly explosive (PETN) penetrates civilian borders, Preacher and his fellow teammates are sent in to solve the problem.

Its been awhile since we’ve talked games from the Horror genre. Many of you may remember Amnesia: The Dark Descent. Well, I have stumbled across something that will probably keep you awake for nights on end. Based on the story found at SCP-087, this game takes place in a dark stairwell. Read the articles before attempting to play the game.

The game can be downloaded by clicking this link.

Can you brave the staircase?

Retro Gaming: Re-Volt

This is a re-post of an article I wrote on my own blog back in April 09, being a retro piece it is almost as relevant today as it was then and I have tweaked it here and there to take account of a few changes of the last couple of years – Jon

In these days of 5 hour installs, limited activations and games that crash every ten minutes it is nice to go back and play some old classics to remind you just how good PC gaming was [1]. Some hold up very well to the test of time and some don’t, Re-Volt is one of the former.

The developers, Acclaim, went bust in 2004 and though the rights to Re-Volt IP were bought by Throwback Entertainment it is no longer in print and is available on Abandonia.com, the legality of this I am unsure about, you can still buy the game second hand but I have not seen it new anywhere. Sadly this version (Abandonia) will not have the brilliant music as the game used CD audio, unfortunately it is also impossible to get the music to work in Vista or Windows 7 (as far as I can tell anyway) even if you own the CD, as to get the game running at all you need to use the noCD patch which disables the music. More on getting it to work in Vista (and XP) later though.

GTN’s play with us – AirBuccaneers HD

Posted by AJ on March 1, 2012

Ok, so you like to play games, we know that since you’re reading this post and this site. What we really want to do is play them with you. This is our huge monthly gaming session where the GTN team will be coming online together and playing games with you.

This month we’ve decided to try something a little different to the usual games we all play, AirBuccaneers HD. It’s a full game being made from the basis of a UT 2004 mod and involves players piloting air balloons around maps and firing cannons at one another to shoot ships down.

This is an Alpha version of the game, so it isn’t polished to the usual standards but it is extremely playable and fun, especially with friends.

So, you want to join us? Well, you’ll need to join our group on Steam if you haven’t already done so (Join here) and join our group chat on Friday 9th March 2012 from 20:00GMT onwards.  You’ll also need to download the Alpha (Download here) and we’ll let you know all the details on the night.
